Connect WordPress plugin

Setup

   Download the plugin from RepGet

   In RepGet, pick your website in the switcher at the top, then open Settings → Integrations and find the WordPress plugin panel. Press Download the plugin. This saves repget-connector.zip, about 35 KB. LEAVE IT ZIPPED - do not unpack it or open it first. Some browsers (Safari on a Mac, for one) unpack a zip automatically, which is the most common reason the install then fails.

   Install it in WordPress

   Press Open my WordPress in the same panel. It opens Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin on your own site (you can also go there yourself). Press Choose File, pick repget-connector.zip exactly as it downloaded, press Install Now, then Activate Plugin.

   WordPress opens the RepGet screen

   Activating the plugin takes you straight to its screen. Later you will find it as RepGet in the left-hand menu of your WordPress admin, between Comments and Appearance, and through the Settings link under the plugin on the Plugins page. Only administrators can see it, because the key controls what gets published to your site.

   Connect - Option A: start in RepGet (recommended)

   Go back to the RepGet tab (Settings → Integrations → WordPress plugin). The card says which RepGet workspace you are connecting - check it is the right one. Press Connect WordPress: it opens the RepGet screen in your WordPress, showing Finish connecting to RepGet. Press it. Your browser visits RepGet for a moment and comes straight back: WordPress is given its key directly by RepGet, and it never appears on screen - nothing to copy. If WordPress asks you to log in first, log in, then press Open WordPress again in RepGet. With plugin 1.6, the Integration Key field is filled in instead - press Save and connect. If your browser blocked the new tab, RepGet shows the key with Copy key: paste it under Advanced: use an Integration Key (plugin 1.7) or into the Integration Key field (1.6), then press Save and connect.

   Connect - Option B: start in WordPress

   Instead of Option A, with plugin 1.7 or later: on the RepGet screen in WordPress, press Connect to RepGet. Sign in to RepGet if asked - with the account that should publish to this site. The page Connect yourdomain to RepGet? lists your websites with this domain and the workspace each belongs to; press Connect yourdomain on the right one. You come straight back to WordPress. If the domain is in none of your websites, RepGet says so: add the website first, or press Use a different account.

   If the site was connected to another account

   Either option asks first when this WordPress site is connected to a different RepGet account or website: the button then reads Move yourdomain to the workspace you chose. The old account's key stops working only once the new connection works, and that account is told. Reconnecting the same website does not ask.

   Check it says Connected - and the right account

   The screen says Connected to, followed by the RepGet workspace and your domain. Back in RepGet you do not need to refresh: within a few seconds the card turns green and Connect your site is ticked. If it names a DIFFERENT account or website, press Connect to a different RepGet account in WordPress (plugin 1.7) - or Connect WordPress in the account you want - and finish again; the connection WordPress holds decides which account publishes there.

   How articles arrive

   Your first article is published live as soon as it is written. After that, RepGet sends articles according to Settings → Article Settings → When an article is finished: kept in RepGet for you to review, sent as a draft on its planned day, or published live on its planned day. Pressing Publish on an article in RepGet publishes it straight away - RepGet asks the plugin to check immediately (plugin 1.4 or later). The plugin also checks by itself every hour, and Check for articles now on the RepGet screen in WordPress fetches anything due at once.

   Find your published articles

   In RepGet, open the article: a published one has a View on your website button under its title, and its history lists the link. In WordPress, go to Posts → All Posts - RepGet articles are ordinary posts you can edit, unpublish or delete. On your live site they appear at their own address (for example yoursite.com/article-title/, depending on Settings → Permalinks) and in your blog listing, which is the page chosen under Settings → Reading → Posts page.

If something goes wrong

• "The package could not be installed"

  The zip was unpacked and re-zipped somewhere along the way, which some browsers do automatically on download. Download it again and upload the file exactly as it arrives, without opening it first.

• There is no Upload Plugin button

  Your account is not an administrator, or the site is on a WordPress.com plan that does not allow plugins.

• "The key was rejected. Check it was copied in full."

  One message covers every cause deliberately, so that somebody guessing at keys learns nothing from the reply. Check three things in order: was the key copied IN FULL (a partial copy is by far the most common cause); is it still ACTIVE, or was it revoked in RepGet; and is it the key for THIS website rather than another site in your workspace. The quickest fix: press Connect WordPress in RepGet, then finish in the WordPress tab it opens.

• Open my WordPress opens the wrong site

  The website address saved in RepGet is not your WordPress address. Correct it under Settings → Business, then press the button again.

• I cannot see RepGet in the WordPress menu

  You need an administrator account. Editors and authors cannot see it, because the key controls what gets published.

• Connected, but no articles appear

  Nothing is sent until an article is due. Check, in order: is auto-publish on in RepGet; has the article's planned date arrived; is the article actually written (Planned or Writing means not yet). To send one now regardless, open the article in RepGet and press Publish, then press Check for articles now in WordPress.

• The article is cut off, or looks like a portfolio or project page

  Your theme shows ordinary WordPress Posts in a different layout from your blog - often a portfolio or project page with a short text panel - so a full article does not fit. On the RepGet screen in WordPress, set Publish articles as to the content type your existing blog articles use (for example Editorial), then press Save (Save and connect before plugin 1.7). The articles RepGet already created are moved there too, and RepGet is told their new addresses. Needs plugin 1.5 or later.

• Articles arrive as drafts instead of live posts

  Settings → Article Settings → When an article is finished is set to Send it to my site as a draft, which is doing its job. Choose Publish it live on its planned day for future articles; drafts already created can be published from the Posts screen in WordPress.

• Pressing Publish in RepGet says the article is queued

  Your site did not answer when RepGet asked the plugin to check, so the article waits for the plugin's hourly check. Most often the plugin is older than 1.4.0 - download it again from RepGet and upload it the same way (WordPress offers Replace current with uploaded; your key is kept). From plugin 1.7, WordPress offers new versions itself under Plugins, like any other plugin. Otherwise a security plugin or firewall may be blocking requests to wp-admin/admin-ajax.php from outside; allow requests with action=repget_sync.

• Articles arrive later than an hour after they are due

  The plugin checks hourly by itself, but WordPress's scheduler only runs when somebody visits your site - so on a quiet site the check happens late. That is how WordPress works rather than a fault. Press Check for articles now to fetch immediately, or ask your host to set up a real cron job if the timing matters to you.

• WordPress says Connected, but RepGet is still waiting

  WordPress is connected with a different key - often from another RepGet account for the same site, or an earlier test. In the RepGet account you want to use, press Connect WordPress, then finish in the WordPress tab it opens. The connection WordPress holds decides which account publishes to the site. You do not need to find or copy any old key.

• RepGet says my site isn't in this account yet

  You are signed in to a RepGet account that has no website with this WordPress address. Press Use a different account and sign in to the account that has it, or add the website first and press Connect to RepGet in WordPress again. The website address in RepGet must be the WordPress address (www. or not does not matter). If WordPress deliberately runs at a different address (for example blog.example.com for example.com), connect it with a key instead: in RepGet open Keys (advanced) and press New key, then in WordPress paste it under Advanced: use an Integration Key and press Save and connect.

• "This connection was opened somewhere else"

  A connection can be finished only in the browser that first opened it, so a link copied to another browser or person approves nothing. Go back to WordPress and press Connect to RepGet again, in the browser where you are signed in to RepGet.

• I lost my key

  You never need an old key again: press Connect WordPress in RepGet and finish in WordPress. Unused keys are tidied up automatically once WordPress connects. To stop a site publishing, press Disconnect in WordPress (plugin 1.7), or open Keys (advanced) in RepGet and press Revoke - the site is told straight away.
